A revitalized Daniil Medvedev won his initial championship for nearly 30 months with a win over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.

Medvedev, a former top-ranked player, has experienced a torrid period, achieving just one match at the major tournaments and experiencing a meltdown at the New York tournament.

The player's varied form on the tennis tour - and struggles with his service game in specific - resulted in him exiting of the top ten and ultimately splitting with long-term coach his previous coach.

Now training with Johansson and his other coach, he has gradually advanced in the past month - culminating in a closely contested competitive win over opponent Moutet.

It is Medvedev's initial championship after the 2023 Rome Masters and initial on a hard surface after March of that year.

The win also indicates Medvedev has secured twenty-one championships at twenty-one distinct events.

"This marks the first occasion I'm at a competition with my both daughters together, so to get a trophy is particularly special," said world number 14 Medvedev.

"This victory is in dedication of my younger daughter Victoria, because the maiden victory I won when my first daughter her name was delivered was for her."

Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had been defeated in his past six finals, featuring in that event previously this season.

Medvedev's retrieving play style and recurring reactions on court had prompted observers to question if his skill to compete at the top level was concluded.

However the athlete has altered his approach in the last few weeks, making an effort to approach the net and perform aggressively, supported by an better serving game.

Medvedev recovered from a deficit in the first set against the tricky opponent, winning 4 of the final five points to go ahead.

The pair swapped breaks in the middle set before the challenger, bidding for his first ATP Tour title, seized the initiative to push for a third set.

Moutet saved 4 initial break points in a competitive deciding set before the Russian won the break to fifteen to secure the win.

Fittingly, Medvedev clinched the win with a shot at the front of the court, with his opponent failing to manage a return after over two and a half hours.
